Summary

Romans 12:15 reminds us: “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” (NIV) The Scriptures teach us much about comforting those who are hurting. Suffering is not only rampant in our fallen world, but totally a part of the normal Christian life. There are no immunizations to prevent suffering and loss. All of us remember times and seasons of pain, when tears ran rampant. We can also remember those who ministered to us during those difficult times. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 is our clarion counsel: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” (ESV) May we, therefore, be vessels and voices of our Father’s mercy, comfort, and love to those sorely afflicted, suffering loss, or deeply pained within.
