Summary

Matthew 1:18 says: “Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with Child from the Holy Spirit.” (ESV) In Luke 1:34-35 Mary asks a question and the angel gives an answer: “And Mary said to the angel, ‘How will this be, since I am a virgin?’ And the angel answered her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the Child to be born will be called holy–the Son of God.'” (ESV) While liberal theologians have long thrown shade on Jesus’ virgin birth, they’re up against the authority of God’s Word, the credal affirmations, and 2,000 years of validation from the most stalwart of church leaders and scholars. If the Bible weaves a tale in this regard, then it’s arguably unreliable in all regards. When believers stand shoulder to shoulder confessing of Christ, “He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary” it matters! Jesus is the second Adam, born without sin, and solely capable of living a perfectly righteous life. And so He did! In so doing He became the only candidate who could atone for our sins with a sin-free sacrifice. And so He did! This should not only give you a better Christmas, but a better eternity! Oh come let us adore Him!
