Summary

Colossians 3:12-14 describes the wardrobe of believers: “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” (ESV) Prior to these words Paul tells us the attire to be discarded. When we claim we are in Christ but our actions betray that profession, we rightfully get labeled as hypocrites. As believers we’ve been new-birthed into a life where we are deliberately and progressively putting off, removing, and eliminating the sinful lifestyles of our past–forsaking those actions that put Jesus on the cross in the first place. If we’re genuine, this is happening. The Holy Spirit is making it happen! “He who began a good work in us will bring it to full completion in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6). No defector from an enemy nation keeps wearing his old uniform or flying his former nation’s flag. He gladly dons the colors of his new nation. By grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone we’ve experienced a kingdom transfer. Changing uniforms is our privilege and we do so with very grateful hearts.
